Usually most American style restaurants have many choices for people that are on a diet. When going to a restaurant that offers American food, the key is to stay away from fried foods and heavy sauces. For appetizers, stick to house salads (with olive oil and vinegar, no ranch or thousand island dressing!). For your main course, stick to veggie pizzas, portabella or veggie burgers on whole wheat, grilled chicken sandwiches on whole wheat, or grilled fish with veggies. Stay away from french fries, onion rings, all salad dressings (except for olive oil), mayonnaise, cheese, soft drinks, and fried chicken wings. Only use ketchup as a dip, as it is low on calories and offers nutritional value to your body. As for desserts......stick to fresh fruit or coffee. Always consume plenty of water throughout your meal.
